Cuteness and Frustration x 2 - Thursday, September 13, 2007

This entry has three parts. Cuteness, Frustration Part 1, and Frustration Part 2.

Cuteness:

This is Dexter. We picked this cute little guy up from Trevor's place on Thursday night. He had emailed about a month ago telling us that he had found some kittens on the porch at his mom's place. He didn't know whether they were dropped off or what, but since they're moving into the city, they wouldn't be able to keep them, and were looking to get rid of them. They had three kittens to get rid of. One of the girls at work wanted this kitten, but he was a stubborn guy (the kitten, not Trevor...) and didn't really want to be caught. By the time he was catchable, the girl from work no longer wanted him. So we decided that we would take him. We initially wanted one of the other kittens, but decided that we would take this guy when the opportunity came up. We brought him to Incognito in Anola to show my mom (she was getting her hair done) and he was pretty good in the car...we had him in a pet carrier though, but he didn't whine or meow or shake.

Frustration, Part 1:

We left Incognito and headed out to the house. Ryan had been talking to the Glen the Finisher who's in charge of the build while Lyle is in Australia, and he was out at the house during the day on Thursday, which meant to me that he was working on the house. Apparently they garage floor and the basement floor were going to be prepped for pouring on Thursday or on Friday (the prepping was to be done, not the actual pouring). When we got to the house it was raining and the wind was pretty bad, so it was pretty miserable. They had indeed prepped the garage floor.

We wanted to go inside to see if they had also prepped the basement, but when we tried to get onto the porch, we realized that after they had removed the stairs (so that we could get some fill brought in to raise the ground up to the stair level) they just placed them up against the porch, so it was a little dicey climbing them...especially when carrying a pet carrier...with a kitten in it. We climbed anyway, and when Ryan got to the door, he realized that it was locked; deadbolted AND locked. So I stayed on the porch while he went and tried to get in through the garage door...which was also deadbolted and locked. Which meant that I couldn't get any pictures of the stuff that they had done on the inside...except for these:

Ya. They show nothing. From what I could see looking in the windows, they had our closet doors and bedroom doors inside, as well as our baseboards and door casings. I hope that they give us a key to the house so that we can go in and take a look at progress! It would be pretty bad if they didn't. We'll see...

Frustration #2:

We climbed into the car after wasting our time at the house and headed home. When we got home, we took Dexter out and held him for a while. Ryan let him go at one point, and he ran and hid under a chair. We got him out of there and put him down in the kitchen and baracaded him in there...and as a response to us doing that, he ran behind the fridge so that we had to pull the fridge out to get him. We decided that we would hold on to him for a bit, and then put him and his food, water, and litter in the bathroom and leave him in there while we ate supper. After supper we brought him out and held onto him while sitting on the couch, and at one point I let him go exploring...and he ran right behind the tv in the livingroom. Ryan had to get him from behind there, and we decided to hold on to him for a little while longer. We let him roam again a little later, and he went into a corner underneath a rocking chair, so we just left him there and started to play with him with a string and some other cat toys. When we were ready for bed, we again put him in the bathroom and closed the door and left him there for the night. At one point he must have jumped on the counter and scared the crap out of himself (not literally), because we heard a little bit of a bang, and when we went in there, he was hiding behind the toilet and the toothbrushes on the counter were knocked over. We moved everything from out of there that he could get into and went to bed.

I was having the BEST sleep ever, and all of a sudden I hear "Hey!...HEY!!". So automatically, I'm thinking oh no, what's happened. So I open my eyes and Ryan's kinda sitting up in bed, saying "he's going to get into the electrical!". I was probably still have asleep at this point so I said "what? are you awake?". He replied with "He's going to get into the electrical!". All I could think of at this point was a - he must be talking about the cat, and b - that there was really no electrical in the bathroom that he could get into. There is only one plug in the bathroom, and it's above the counter on the wall. So I ask him what he's talking about, and he says that he's going to get into the electrical in the basement...which made no sense to me, because he was in the bathroom. Again, I ask him what he's talking about and if he's awake and he says "I think so...but he's going to get into the wires in the basement!" At this point I realize that he's sleep talking, and I'm mad, because it was SERIOUSLY the BEST sleep...So I ask him "Are you talking about the wires at our house?", to which he replied with a deep frustrated sigh as if it was HIM who was just woken up in the middle of the night by me sleep talking. I look at the clock, and I'm like "Can you please look at the clock and tell me what time it is?" He looked at the clock and at this point, I think he actually woke up, and said "nevermind", and kinda laughed it off...and I was thinking "Ya, REAL FUNNY!" It was 2:50 a.m. by the way...oh well. I survived.
I can't wait to get out to the house after work on Friday night to see what's done...if we can get a key that is!
