My Grandpa and his wife Mary came to Winnipeg on the bus from Estevan to catch a plane from here to Toronto to go and look at a classic car someone was selling out there. Mom & Dad brought them out to our house to have a look. A lot has changed since they'd been there last...all there was was a hole dug for the basement.

Nobody was working on the house this weekend, but the farmer that was looking after our property had cut down the oats...combined, if you will.

Geoff & Dad are trying to find the stakes that they put up marking where our property ends...apparently the guy drove over them and cut them off a bit.

Hydro was good enough to go out to the house and put the meter in...now all we have to wait for is Lyle's electrician to get out to the house and hook everything up to the fuse box. Nothing else was done as far as we could see...

We're waiting for the framers to come back and fix a part of the garage where it meets the house...just so that we don't get any unwanted tenants..

FINALLY! I had called Hydro during the day on Thursday, and the guy told me that they should be out by the end of this week to run the lines. He said that he wouldn't know when they ran the line until the day after they ran it, and then he wouldn't be able to schedule someone to come out to hook it up until early the following week. I didn't quite understand it, but I accepted that as an answer. Well, when we got to the house, we saw that Hydro had been out and dug the trench and layed the line and then covered it back up with dirt. That was exciting. Now we just have to wait for the Hydro guy to schedule the guys who hook the stuff up before we'll actually have power.

Earlier in the day, we had gotten a call from the Lyle the Cabinet Guy, telling us that where the microwave is situated interferes with the opening of the corner cabinet, and wanted to know which way we'd like to fix it. He gave us two options: 1 - lower the wall oven and put the microwave above it, or 2 - change the corner cabinet to a square cabinet, and put a hinged door on it (a door with a hinge in the middle, so a split door, basically). I told him that I didn't want to lower the wall oven (why have a wall oven if it's going to be just as low as a regular oven) and that he can make a square cabinet with a hinged door.

Ryan had also suggested that I ask him about the cupboards over the washer and dryer. I want to have wall to wall cupboards over the washer and dryer, and Ryan had mentioned that to Lyle before, but he couldn't remember what he told him. I asked Lyle and he told me that he and Ryan had decided on a 30 inch cabinet above the laundry team, which would not be a wall to wall cabinet. I told him that we would measure the are where we wanted the cupboards to be, and that we'd get back to him. We measured the area, and found that it was actually 70 inches, and that he would need to build us 2-35" cabinets. I called him and let him know that, and he said it would be no problem.

They taped the edges of the drywall and mudded those areas too, as well as doing some touch ups.

I was quite intriqued by the corners of the walls (small things do amuse small minds). We had asked for square corners instead of rounded corners, and they obliged, and I went and touched one of the walls at the corner to see how smooth it was...and soon discovered that it was still wet, and that I had left an impression in the wall...hopefully they're not too mad...it could have been worse...

So now we still have to wait for Hydro to actually hook up the power, and then we'll probably still be waiting...

More Framing?? - Wednesday, August 22, 2007

We got to the house Wednesday night and noticed that they had built a couple more bulk heads in the kitchen, which we quickly realized was for the cabinets over the fridge, and the cabinets over the wall oven, and one small one for the upper corner cabinet.

Have you ever taken a picture of something, then looked at it later and couldn't figure out what the hell it is? Ya, this is one of those pictures:

I have no clue what that is, or where it is. It looks like some sort of wires to me...I think that maybe Ryan took that picture and can better explain what it is.

More Soffits & Facia - Tuesday, August 21, 2007

They've completed the soffits and facia...well, almost. Don't ask me how, but they missed one piece...an obvious piece, if you ask me...

The soffit guys have to come back out to frame the garage door anyway, so they'll fix it at that point I would imagine. Ryan and I didn't even notice it until I got home and was playing around again with this picture for deciding on the exterior of the house. What's that you say? I thought they already picked the exterior for the house? Well, you'd be correct, we HAD it picked out already, but Ryan is still not sure what he wants to do...It's a good thing we've already bought the lights and they're being shipped (hopefully) as we speak...

The rest of the soffits and facia are done. Here's a few pictures. Have I mentioned yet that I LOVE the porch? I think it's going to be my favourite part of the house...

The mudding has also been started. The've got most of the screws covered, and the seams, but none of the corners or edges done yet. Apparently they can't move very fast because there's no hydro yet. When I talked to the guy from Hydro, he said that it was going to be done either by the end of last week, or early this week...Tuesday, and still nothing...to me, Wednesday is mid-week, so he's lied to us...oh well. They had 30 other underground jobs to do, so maybe ours will be next...

The basement is still a mess, but they've now got the pipes running where they should be, so all we have to do now is get Don the Geothermal Guy to run his pipes up to where they're supposed to be, and it'll be ready to be poured.

Soffits & Facia - Monday, August 20, 2007

No mudding or taping yet...but now we shouldn't get rain inside the house anymore. The guys doing the soffits & facia were out on Monday and got a bit of the house done. Apparently Hydro is supposed to be out there this week sometime (that's what they told me last week, anyway) and the basement is supposed to be poured sometime this week. As soon as the basement is poured, we're going to move our freezer in there (once it's set, obviously) so that we won't wreck the walls when they've been painted trying to move the freezer into the basement. If anyone wants to help with that...we're open to offers...

Thursday was one of the most exciting days of my life...

We went to the house after work with my mom and dad, and when we got there we noticed that there were extension cords running from the generator into the house...

We opened the door, and saw...

DRYWALL!!! The second floor is completely done. All that is left is the first floor! They're supposed to be done by Friday night and I can't WAIT to get out there to see it! It seems so much smaller inside now, because you can't actually see through the walls anymore. I want to move in...lol.
