Someone Else's Junk...Thursday, August 2, 2007

Thursday night we went to Robyn's place, because she had emailed me some pictures of some furniture that her mom was getting rid of, and there was a few things that I wanted to take a look at. Before we went to her place though, we went to Oakbank Furniture and took a browse through there.

Ryan and I are looking to get a hall bench for the entryway of the house, since Ryan didn't want a closet there because he thought that it would block the view of the stairs and just be too bulky. We've been looking on eBay, but some people won't ship to Canada, and if they do, the shipping is crazy because the item is so big and awkward. We've gone into a few furniture places and found some benches, but they've been made in China, and Ryan isn't too fond of that (me, I don't really care...if it looks good, buy it), and others have just been way to expensive, like this one here (http://www.bernhardt.com/live/index.htm) (you have to click on Products, then Occassional in the Casegoods section, then hall chests, and it's the top right hand picture.) from Bernhardt...it's $2400...oh, but it was on sale in the spring for a mere $1800! CRAZY!

Anyway, anytime I want to go into a furniture store, Ryan kinda groans, and I usually have to drag him in there. I keep telling him that he's the one that wants the hall bench, but he doesn't seem to be looking all that hard for one. He's done that to me when we were in Steinbach signing the papers for Hydro, when I wanted to go into Furniture Plus. We found 2 benches in there, one was from China, and the other was stamped "Made in Canada" from Buhler Furniture. We really liked the Buhler one...but didn't buy it. I can't remember the price...I think it was around $850, but it was just a single seater, but it was beautiful.

So I dragged Ryan into Oakbank furniture Thursday night, and we found another hall bench. This one was oak, but it was also a single seater. It was about $450. We kept looking around (that place is packed! You wouldn't think so looking at the outside of the store), and found the PERFECT bench. It was also a Buhler product, "Made in Canada", and it was a double seater! It was the perfect size and colour and everything...and the price wasn't that bad either. It was listed as regularly $1712, on sale for $850. It must have been an old Buhler product, because it didn't come up on their website when I searched for the one we saw at Furniture Plus in Steinbach. I took a picture of it...not a very good picture, but a picture, none the less. It was beautiful...it was hard to walk away from it, but we did. We wouldn't have anywhere to put it right now anyway, Ryan's mom's house is packed with our stuff, and so is my mom and dad's place...and there's no way that we'd pay for storage at a storage place. Hopefully it's still there when it comes time to move in to the house...I'll keep my fingers crossed...until October...

After we got out of Oakbank furntire, we went to Robyn's place to look at the stuff her mom was getting rid of. We ended up taking an old chair from her, 4 kitchen chairs, and two small tables that have to be cleaned up and they should look pretty good with the coffee table that we've already got. Ryan wasn't to keen on picking any of this stuff up, just because he didn't want to haul it around twice. Ryan left and I stayed behind to drive to our place with Robyn, so we went inside and looked at a table that she was also getting rid of. I told her that we had no room for it at the moment, and she said that was okay...so it seems that now we're storing stuff at Robyn's Mom's place too. We're very greatful for the spaces that we have available to store things. The only thing that suffers is games night. We have no room to hold anymore games nights. So someone else will have to offer up their place for the next one. Here's the stuff we picked up from Robyn's mom...

Don't judge until you've seen them once I've worked on them a bit.

We dropped off the stuff at our place, and then headed out to the house to show Robyn what had been done since the last time she was there. Nothing new was done to us; they hadn't started the drywall or anything. Ryan taped up the central vac exhaust pipe that we installed the day before.
